Susan’s Story
Susan Cran retired to the Okanagan in 2017 after a rewarding career in higher education and community rehabilitation. She served as an Assistant Professor in the Community Rehabilitation & Disability Studies program within the Department of Community Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary.
Throughout her academic career, Susan was committed to preparing students to support people with disabilities and other barriers to full community participation. With a focus on inclusion, advocacy, and person-centred practice, she also led the graduate program and was instrumental in developing a pan-Canadian distance graduate program that expanded educational opportunities for students across Canada.
Susan holds a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), a Master of Education (MEd), and a Doctor of Education (EdD).
Since relocating to Osoyoos, Susan has continued her lifelong commitment to community service. She is an active member of the Rotary Club of Osoyoos and currently serves as its President, contributing to local and international initiatives that strengthen communities and improve lives.
When she’s not volunteering, Susan enjoys working as a tasting room associate at Bartier Bros. Winery, where she welcomes visitors, shares her enthusiasm for exceptional wines, and meets people from around the world. Widowed after 33 years of marriage, Susan treasures time with her family, friends, and the vibrant Okanagan community she is proud to call home.
