Maureen Doerr

Longtime Oliver resident, former Oliver Town Councillor, and proud daughter of Desert Sun’s founder - carrying her family’s legacy forward as Board Chair.

Maureen’s Story

Maureen Doerr has proudly called Oliver home for most of her life. Her family moved from Kelowna to Oliver in 1964, and she graduated from South Okanagan Secondary School (SOSS) in 1973. After moving to Vancouver, she began her career with the Royal Bank of Canada, where she worked from 1975 to 1985 before returning home to Oliver.

Throughout her career, Maureen has built extensive experience across the financial, government, retail, business, and real estate sectors. She has worked with the Royal Bank of Canada, CIBC, Canada Customs, Valley First, Peoples Drug Mart, operated her own business, and later joined Royal LePage. From 2011 to 2018, she proudly served on Oliver Town Council, contributing to the growth and well-being of the community she loves. In 2018, she became a property manager, and in 2024 she joined the Oliver Kiwanis Senior Citizens Housing Society, where she continues to serve today.

Community service has always been at the heart of Maureen’s life. She has volunteered with numerous local organizations over the years and believes strongly that thriving communities are built by people who are willing to give back. Her guiding philosophy is simple: “My joy is giving back.”

Maureen’s connection to Desert Sun Counselling & Resource Centre runs especially deep. Her father was the founder of the organization many years ago, when it first began as a drug and alcohol counselling centre. Since those early days, Desert Sun has grown tremendously, evolving to meet the changing needs of the South Okanagan. Today, the organization offers 27 diverse programs and services, filling critical gaps in the community by supporting women, children, seniors, families, and individuals through counselling, crisis support, housing, transportation, parenting programs, and many other essential services. Maureen is proud to continue her family’s legacy by serving as Board Chair and helping guide the organization’s ongoing growth and impact.

Maureen has been married to her husband, Bill Doerr, since 1996. Together they share a blended family with four children - Julie, Christopher, Nicole, and Brent - and are the proud grandparents of ten grandchildren.

For Maureen, Oliver has always been more than a place to live - it is home. She remains deeply committed to strengthening the community and ensuring it continues to be a place where people are supported, connected, and cared for.
